LUS is Prepared
When emergency situations arise, you can be assured that LUS will respond as quickly as possible. Our employees are prepared to follow the LUS Emergency Response Plan in order to restore services to our customers through a safe and efficient process.
Please review the following Q & A's to learn more about how LUS responds during a wide-spread outage. What is the process to restore power after severe weather, such as a hurricane?
Monitoring the electrical system and gathering information from across the utility service area determine electricity restorations. To ensure safety, the crews must first make sure power is no longer flowing through downed lines. Those who may see a downed line should remember to always assume it is a live wire, stay away from it and call your utility company.
After downed power lines are repaired, restoration proceeds based on system priorities. First, transmission lines to distribution substations must be repaired, as they are the most important lines carrying power from the power plant to large numbers of customer throughout the service area.
When those repairs are complete, LUS can begin restoring power from feeders to individual fused taps. Crews must evaluate the damage incurred in your area so that the proper supplies and/or new hardware can be used to make necessary repairs.
Why does my neighbor have power and I don't?
Sometimes customers may see lights come back on across the street or nearby, but they remain without power. There are several reasons why this may occur:
· Some customers may have generators that provide them with an alternate source of power for their businesses.
· Certain parts of a neighborhood may be on different circuits that have already been restored or received no damage.
· The secondary service directly into your business may have been damaged such as a detached meter. In such case, a licensed electrician must follow standard procedures for performing electrical work in Lafayette Parish before the utility can reconnect service to your business.
