Application Process

Because Lafayette Utilities System is a department of the Lafayette Consolidated Government, it is subject to the civil service process.

Only the first 80 applications received before the deadline will be accepted. Only U.S. citizens registered to vote and non-citizens authorized to work in the United States by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services) are eligible to be considered for hiring by the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The deadline may be found in the top right corner on the front of the application. Applications will not be accepted after the posted deadline. Applications must also include an original signature. Residents who live in the Lafayette area must turn in applications at the Civil Service office. If you live outside the Lafayette area, a copy of the required information must accompany the application before it is accepted.

Applications will not be accepted without the following items:

  1. Proof of Voter Registration from the parish in which the applicant resides. This may be obtained from your parish courthouse.
  2. Proof of Social Security (SS) Number. A driver's license or other official material with your SS number printed on it may be accepted in place of a SS card.

Veterans who can show Proof of Veteran Status (DD214), along with proof that he or she served 90 consecutive days of active duty and was honorably discharged, will be awarded five points to a passing score on the Civil Service Employment Examination.

If you have any questions, please call the Civil Service office at (337) 291-8330.
